The festival of Rakshabandhan is celebrated with great pomp in India. This festival is celebrated every year in the month of August. This festival is a symbol of unwavering love of brothers and sisters.

The festival of Raksha Bandhan is celebrated on the full moon day of the month of Shravan.

Meaning of Rakshabandha

Rakshabandhan means (Raksha + Bandhan) means to bind someone to protect themselves.

Therefore, while tying the rakhi, the sister says - Brother, I am in your shelter, protect me in every way.

On this day, the sister ties a rakhi to her brother and feeds him sweets. And as a result, brothers give their sister money or gifts etc.

Rakshabandhan is that invaluable bond of affection, which cannot be repaid even by giving money.

These threads of Rakhi have made many sacrifices. Rajmata Karmavati of Chittor sent Mughal Emperor Humayun as his brother by sending a rakhi

And he too had reached Chittor to protect sister Karmavati during the time of crisis.

Nowadays, the sister ties a rakhi to the brother and the sibling fulfills his duty by giving him some gifts.

People have forgotten that the threads of Rakhi are related to the sacred feelings of the mind.

Raksha Sutra

The bond of faith is the root of Indian tradition and Rakshabandhan is a symbol of this.

It not only promises to protect the festival by tying a rakhi as a sutra-sutra, but promises to bind the hearts through love, dedication, loyalty and determination.

Previously Rakshabandhan was limited to brothers and sisters, but in case of objection, anyone was sent Raksha-sutra (Rakhi) to protect or to increase one's age and health.

Lord Krishna has said in the Gita that 'Mayi Sarvamind Prate Sutre Manigana Eve'

This means - 'Sutra' is a symbol of unrestraint, because the sutra (thread) makes scattered beads in it, suddenly in the form of a garland.

Like the sutra of Mala, Raksha-sutra also connects people.

It is written in the Gita that when moral values start to decline in the world, then Lord Shiva and Prajapati Brahma send sacred threads to the earth.

Whom the sister wished for, and the brothers immolate their brothers and Lord Shiva relieves them from negative thoughts and gives them relief from sorrow and suffering.

Other name for Rakshabandhan

The festival of Rakshabandhan is celebrated on the full moon day of the month of Shravan. Lord Vishnu, wearing the Vamana avatar, shattered the pride of the sacrificial king on this day.

Therefore, this festival is also famous by the name 'Balev'. In the state of Maharashtra, this festival is known as Coconut Purnima or Shravani.

On this day people go to the banks of the river or the sea and change their threads and worship the sea.

Rakshabandhan is the holy festival of love and protection of sister-brother in India on the full moon day of Shravan Shukla.

It is also called 'Sawhney or Saloono' due to its celebration in Saavan.

The full moon day of Shravan is generally celebrated every year in the month of August.

Rakshabandhan will be celebrated on Monday, August 3 in the year 2020.

Seeing the gods being frightened, Indrani tied the protective cover in his hands. This increased the confidence of the gods and they conquered the demons.

Since then the practice of tying rakhi started. According to the second belief, the sage-sages' sermon was on this day.

They used to put a protective coat in the hands of kings. That is why even today, Brahmins tie rakhi to their priests on this day.
